Abstract
Description
Shand makes a powerful argument for the need to reflect in music education the cultural
mosaic that Canada has come to embrace. Both folk and composed music of English, French, native, and other ethnic groups can be a valuable resource for music educators.
Issues of authenticity may arise, and can be addressed through interaction with those
communities and their materials, as a conference sponsored by the University of Toronto and the Ontario Music Educators’ Association attests. In this way Canada can lead in music education, for Canada reflects the diversity of the world.
