Abstract
Abstract Objective: To determine the rate of repeat treatment of caries under general anesthesia (GA) over a ten-year period at a children’s hospital and to assess the frequency of repeat dental treatment under GA by comorbidity. Methods: The health records of children who required repeat GA for dental treatment at The Hospital for Sick Children from January 1, 2006, to December 31, 2015, inclusive were reviewed. Results: The rate of repeat dental treatment under GA for dental treatment over a ten-year period was 10.8%. The yearly repeat rate and simple moving five-year rate of repeat dental treatment under GA increased over the study period. Repeat GA for dental caries was not associated with any particular medical comorbidity. Conclusions: The rate of repeat dental treatment under GA was consistent with the rates reported in the dental literature. The rate of repeat GA for treatment of dental caries increased over the period investigated.
