Abstract
Construction of the Duncan Dam in British Columbia commenced in 1964, and was completed in April 1967, about one year ahead of schedule. During construction, several large transverse cracks formed through the dam due to differential settlement. This paper describes the formation of the cracks, their cause, the methods used to deal with the problem, and the changes in design required to preserve the integrity of the dam.
