Abstract
Unlike some deviant sub-populations which only began to be seriously scrutinized by researchers upon the advent of HIV, the study of sex work in Canada was well developed by the time HIV was identified. Though sex work as a social issue has been much discussed in academic, political and legal discourses in Canada, there have been few attempts to understand the experiences of male sex workers. In this chapter we describe findings from a recent review of male sex work and HIV and AIDS in Canada. This review examined past and present understanding of male sex work in Canada, with an emphasis on issues relating to HIV and AIDS.
