Abstract

In the annals of technical publications available to the engineering profession, there are many and varied papers dealing with specific aspects of speed regulation, selection of inertia constants for machines, power surges and the like. The authors have felt the need of a concise summary of the approach to the phase of hydroelectric station design. It is recognized, and indeed emphasized, that the use of unfamiliar formulae and graphs may be dangerous, if not used or supervised by those experienced in such design. However, it is essential that there be a standard approach in order to instruct engineers, facilitate checking and provide an orderly method of recording design tests and experience. The authors make no pretense at having developed new theories; rather have they condensed known methods of calculations in a form which can readily be used without length and laborious calculations.
