The "Journal of Medical Internet Research" (JMIR;
Medline-abbreviation: J Med Internet Res), founded in
1999, was the first (and remains the only) international scientific
peer-reviewed journal on all aspects of research, information and
communication in the healthcare field using Internet and other
eHealth technologies [see also What is
eHealth and What is eHealth (2)].
This field has also significant overlaps with what is called
"consumer health informatics.". As the field evolves, despite
having "Internet" in its title, the journal also publishes original
research on development, evaluation, and application of other
(non-Internet) cutting-edge e-technologies in the health care
setting.
We are different from other medical informatics journals in that we
are targeting a broad readership consisting of health
professionals, policy makers, consumers, health informaticians,
developers, researchers, hospital and health care administrators,
and e-health businesses, rather than reaching only a small medical
informatics community.
