Dating back to 1843, the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto is among the oldest and largest in North America. Coming through with its rich history of medical research breakthroughs, the department currently houses over 400 full-time faculty members and 400 post-graduate trainees and fellows that conduct cutting-edge research in its 19 divisions (cardiology, clinical pharmacology, dermatology, and many others). The department also plays a substantial role in the undergraduate M.D. program, as well as a proud supporter of an extensive program of continuing education as seen with its members engaged in the supervision of over 130 graduate students through the Institute of Medical Science, Program in Clinical Epidemiology and Health Care Research, and basic science departments.
